Oxford struck five times to bury Plymouth on a Tuesday night at the United Stadium in from of nearly 8,000. The first goal came in the 15th minute, Robbie Hall striking from 12 yards. Plymouth equalised 10 minutes into the second half after Michael Duberry felled Sims in the penalty area and the ref pointed to the spot. Walton fired the resultant spot kick into the back of the net. The U's responded well though and scored four more times through Robbie Hall again, Peter Leven and a brace from James Constable.
